What Is a Makerspace?
So what IS a makerspace? “A makerspace is a physical location where people gather to share resources and knowledge, work on projects, network, and build. Makerspaces™) Makerspaces allow students a place to collaborate, “fail forward” and develop their passions and may be high tech with 3D printers and wearable technology, medium tech with raspberry pi and robotics or low tech with origami or design projects with recycled materials.

Funding a Makerspace Through Grants
- Lowes Toolbox for EducationKick start a Makerspace with Lowes Toolbox for Education Grant. Pick a project that meets your schools needs and your parent group's mission. Your project must be completed within one year of receiving the grant.

- Captain Planet FoundationGrants are made for activities that conform to the mission of the Captain Planet Foundation and MUST have all four of the following to be considered for funding:
1) Be project-based;
2) Projects must be performed by youth;
3) Projects must have real environmental outcomes; 4) Be based in the United States.
