The Spring Institutes offer two stimulating days of professional learning. Our keynote speaker on the elementary day will be award-winning author Cece Bell whose biographical graphic novel, El Deafo was a Newbery Honor Book and was selected for the 2015

Our Spring Institutes were a great success!  Thank you to all of our attendees and especially to all of our wonderful presenters.  We hope everyone left the institutes energized and full of new ideas and strategies to try out at your schools.  Be sure to consult the “Presentations” tab above regularly as presenters make their materials and handouts available via this LibGuide.  Thank you again for making the two days so successful!

 

Secondary Day Keynote - Steve Sheinkin

MAY 12TH KEYNOTE: A former textbook writer, Steve Sheinkin is now making amends by writing history books kids and teens actually want to read. Recent titles include Bomb, The Port Chicago 50The Notorious Benedict ArnoldLincoln's Grave Robbers, and the newest, Most Dangerous: Daniel Ellsberg and the Secret History of the Vietnam War, a finalist for the 2015 National Book Award. His books have won numerous awards, including a Newbery Honor, the Siebert Medal, and the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults. Read more at Steve at stevesheinkin.com.

Elementary Day Keynote -- Cece Bell

MAY 11TH KEYNOTE: Cece Bell is an author and illustrator of books for children. She lives in an old church in the mountains of Virginia and she works right next door in a new-ish barn. Her graphic novel memoir, El Deafo, which chronicles her childhood experiences with hearing loss, received a Newbery Honor and an Eisner Award in 2015. Cece's other books include the Geisel Honor book Rabbit & Robot: The Sleepover, I Yam a Donkey, and Chuck and Woodchuck. She has also illustrated books written by her husband, Tom Angleberger, including the picture book Crankee Doodle, as well as the Inspector Flytrap chapter book series, coming out later this year.
