Description, Goals, Intended Outcomes:

HomeworkNYC an IMLS grant-funded project takes homework help into the 21st century! Instead of relying on a destination webpage, HomeworkNYC is going where the students are. Students expect to have content delivered to them and are able to repackage it and push it out, into their own social sphere. HomeworkNYC doesn’t just provide homework help to students, it also offers support to Librarians, Parents, and Teachers’ learning of Web 2.0 tools.

Process to Develop and Implement this Project:

The project is the outcome of research conducted by New York City’s public libraries which showed that students were not strong users of the libraries’ homework help resources. Librarians working on the project realized that in order to support students, we need to be where they are as well as work with teachers and parents to inform them about the positive role that Web 2.0  technologies play in students’ lives.
